Mlb – History Of Cleveland Indians

American League Cy Young Award – Jon Lester, Boston Red Sox. I may have been one year too early in predicting John Lester would win this award last year. Then again, if Lester hadn’t gotten off to such a bad start last year (1-2, 4.71 ERA in April), his stats would’ve looked even better than his impressive final stat line of 19-9, 3.20 ERA. If Lester can get off to a fast start for a change (4.58 career ERA in April), anywhere between 20-23 wins is a possibility considering the revamped Red Sox lineup, the speedy outfield, and the improved (at least on paper) bullpen.

The American League has seen the likes of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee relocate to the national League. So Lester’s only competition should be Felix Hernandez and CC Sabathia. Hernandez will be hard-pressed to win 13 games again like he did last year despite a 2.27 ERA. Seattle’s offense and bullpen is just that bad. The Yankees’ Sabathia, despite still being only 30 years old, has logged over 230 innings in his last four seasons and has, remarkably, thrown over 180 innings in each of his 10 seasons in the majors. Might this be the year he breaks down? The Yankees don’t even want to consider the possibility.

It’s no secret that Miguel Cabrera is off to an incredible start, but the Tigers are also getting major contributions from Brandon Inge, who appears to be reborn in his return to third base. Last season, Inge hit .263 in 13 games against the sale jerseys, striking out 12 times and registering only five RBIs. Inge’s performance could play an enormous role on the outcome of this series.

However, the magic or talent has not been the same in 2013. The White Sox are currently at the bottom of the division and not many things are going right. Jake Peavy is injured again, Sale is struggling, and Paul Konerko could be finally showing his age. Then, there is Adam Dunn, with a batting average that is lower than some co-ed league bowling scores.

Letting this all soak in, I sat down, leaned against the fence and watched people around me. What i saw throughout the game was more of a social atmosphere. If that was because it was MY first Spring Training game this year, or how it always is, I’ll find out on Friday, but I believe there is more of a social atmosphere, at least in left field, than in the left field bleachers at Wrigley. One friend even commented on that to me.

It seems Rodriguez will get up to 49 more shots, as the appeal on his suspension is set to last into the offseason. Because he was only suspended under baseball’s drug policy and not the collective bargaining agreement, he still had a chance to appeal. Unlike everyone else in the Biogenesis scandal, he took that chance.

After a stellar 2009 season, Michael Wuertz began the year injured and rarely flashed his previous form. Finishing the year with a 4.31 ERA, Wuertz was often very inconsistent — resulting in a lot of anxious moments. Wuertz still had the ability to strikeout hitters regularly, but his walks were way up.

Chicago’s Baseball Champions

The Indians ended the year attracting 2,365,631 in 81 dates. At home the Indians attendance figure was 1,391,644 for 80 dates. Cleveland had 23 dates of 20,000 or more fans, including 12 dates of atleast 25,000.

CarGo’s teammate, Troy Tulowitzki, should also be in the running for MVP along with, obviously, Pujols. Tulowitzki had probably the best two-week offensive performance in major league baseball history in the first half of last September. For the month, Tulowitzki finished with an incredible 15 home runs and 40 RBIs.

While the Twins suffered the losses of most of their bullpen in the off season, the Sox feel they improved their bullpen. Key to that improvement is the acquisition of Jesse Crain from the rival Twins. sale jerseys, in his second season after impressing in his rookie campaign last year, will serve as a set up man to closer Matt Thorton. The Sox let former closer Bobby Jenks leave to go to the Boston Red Sox. They also lost Scott Linebrink to the Atlanta Braves. But with Sergio Santos, Tony Pena, and Jeff Marquez, the Sox feel that their bullpen will be a strength as the season goes on.

Just as i feel that players, who use synthetic products to enhance their abilities and give them a competitive edge, are guilty of wrong doing, I feel every athlete who takes the field is obligated to play hard and try to win fairly. To try and maim someone is unthinkable.

When Thome left to go to the rival Twins prior to the 2010 season, General Manager Kenny Williams and Manager Ozzie Guillen decided to use the designated hitter slot as a way to get bench players at bats. Many different players hit in the designated hitter slot for Guillen last season but without the power production they were used to.

Cleveland ended the season 31-50 on the road on the way to its 69-93 season. The Indians had winning records on Thursday (10-9), Friday (13-12) and Saturday (15-12). The most cruel to the Tribe was Wednesday (7-19).

Then there is Major League Baseball. The Majors have never used instant replay for anything and continue to not use it even here in 2007. Is it time for MLB to begin using instant replay in regular and postseason games? Many fans, journalists, and even those involved directly in the game would say that it is indeed time. However, not everybody is in agreement.

Q&a With 2008 White Sox First

In addition to losing Crain, the Twins lost Matt Guerrier to the Dodgers, Brian Fuentes to the Athletics, and Jon Rauch to the blue Jays. Additionally, their former all star closer Joe Nathan is coming back after missing all of last season following Tommy John surgery. Also, a week into spring training Twins all star first baseman Justin Morneau had yet to play and there was no time table for his return as he continues to deal with a concussion he suffered mid way through last season. With the subtractions and uncertainty of key Twins, it seems that the Sox have overtaken Minnesota as they, along with the Detroit Tigers, battle for the division.

Texas will try and snap a two-game losing streak after getting hammered 10-0 by the sale jerseys on Sunday as a 115 road favorite. Its lead over the Angels in the AL West is down to just four games as the back-to-back losses to Chicago dropped the Rangers to 73-55 on the year. They are 34-32 on the road and 39-23 at home.

Chicago was haunted by one of its old pitchers Daniel Hudson in Friday’s Game 1 when he pitched the Diamondbacks to a 4-1 decision over the 121 road underdogs. The loss was the White Sox’s third in-a-row leaving them 5.5 games in back of Cleveland and Detroit in the AL Central with an overall record of 33-38. They are 16-17 at home and 17-21 on the road.

To that point, Detroit’s own trio of relievers have equaled the task, as Ryan Perry, Fernando Rodney, and Bobby Seay have also gone 7.1 innings without yielding a run.

This ties in with arm strength, but could take longer to get back than his velocity. If Peavy’s arm is tiring after three or four innings going at full speed ahead (which, let’s be honest, is the only speed for him), then obviously he’ll need some time after the season starts to regain that stamina. If i had to guess, stamina would be the main reason why Peavy won’t be in the White Sox’s starting rotation in April-it’ll be the reason why he won’t be 100 percent until, say, early May.

So this past off season, Williams signed left handed slugger Adam Dunn, formerly of the Nationals. A consistent 40-45 homer a season hitter, its feasible that Dunn could even hit 50 plus homers in homer friendly U. S. Cellular Field. Dunn pairs with Konerko, who hit 39 homers last year, to once again give Chicagos American League team a thunderous middle of the order tandem.

The Tigers get their first look at Chicago’s Gavin Floyd Monday. The 26-year-old righty went 3-0 in five starts against Detroit in 2008. Chicago went on to win each of those five contests.

Rays Win First Game Of Series Vs White Sox

Seeing as both starters have had relative success against either club, it wouldn’t be surprising to the series decided by the bullpen- which on paper Chicago decidedly has the upper hand.

Back when the Sox signed Ohman, I said that we’d need to figure out what they planned to do with sale jerseys before coming to a conclusion. Now that we know, it’s hard to figure out what Ohman can actually contribute. Look at Randy Williams last year. Even though he was the only non-Thornton lefty in the bullpen, he still went 13 games without pitching at one point.

Cleveland and Chicago had an odd year against each other. The Tribe won five of the first six while the White Sox won five of the last six. In between, the Indians and White Sox split six games for a 9-9 season series.

Those same fans see instant replay as more of a nuisance than good. Once instant replay is used by Major League Baseball for one set of calls then when will it end? Will replay be used only on close plays at the plate or determining if a ball was actually fair or foul? What if, in the bottom of the ninth of a close game, a pitch is called a ball that appeared to be a strike? Will that be reviewed?

In the second, he retired David Wright on a groundout to third, struck out Carlos Gonzalez on an impressive slider, and got Yadier Molina on a fly out. Then in the third, struck out Troy Tulowitzki, got Michael Cuddyer on a weak ground out, and finally got Home run derby runner up Bryce Harper on a line out.

Another guy on the 40-man, another guy without minor league success. The 25-year-old Jones posted a 4.17 FIP in high-A Winston-Salem in 2010. Like the last few pitchers listed, he’s on the 40-man, so I’ll say he gets a shot, but don’t expect him to be much of a factor in this race.

If the second lefty can remain seated for an entire fortnight, it stands to reason that there will be even less use for a third lefty. And if Sergio Santos maintains his significant reverse splits, Ohman would actually be the fourth guy you’d want to see against a lefty.

Certainly, it wasn’t a weakness on the 2010 team, but with a better bullpen, the A’s can certainly challenge for a playoff spot in the AL this upcoming season. Perhaps the biggest issues were managerial mismanagement and injuries, in truth.
